Updated January 6, 2002: On
December 16th, 2001, we shared in Harvestland’s first Christmas party. It
was held at Sportsman Lake and did we fill the club house. We enjoyed
eating, singing, the kids had a play, and Santa joined at the end. It was a
real blessing for all who came.
On December 23, 2001
we shared in the Lord’s Supper as we prepared for Christmas.
On December 24, 2001
we were able to write a check out and buy our first five acres of land.
This was, I feel a true gift of God and in that we must give that land back
to Him and His use. We have also received the deed for the second tract of
land in which we have seven years to pay off. Our next step is to get a
loan from the bank and start building our new Worship Center.
The youth went on
their winter retreat on December 26-28 of 2001. We joined Valley Creek in
their annual winter meeting. This year Bro. Andre preached the sermons.
They also got to enjoy Joy Williams and The Elms in two mini–concerts. The
praise and worship was led by Michael Prettyman, his brother, and one of his
friends.
We have started the
new year off with great expectation of the awesome things can do. Our faith
and hope is in Him and Him alone.
Updated March 17, 2002: We have
passed our one year mark as far as meeting as a church and are approaching
the one year mark as far as our constitution date of becoming a church.
On March 5th, 2002
we moved ground on our land. The footers and foundation are being done and
hopefully we will be worshiping there soon.
Over the past
several weeks we have also been preparing for our first Easter cantata.
Along with the singing there will be dramatization.
On Sunday March 3rd,
we started our second round of networking. This has truly proven to be a
blessing in keeping us united and in one accord.
Updated October 20, 2002: A very fast
paced, fun filled summer has just flown by. Many things have taken
place over the past few months. To begin with, we will start with
today; Dennis Herron preached the last Sunday morning service in the old
building. This week will mark our last week there. Starting next
week, will be begin meeting in our new church building.
This past summer we
have seen our youth go on mission trip. They returned to Westview
Baptist Church and took care of the VBS there. We also had an awesome
time sharing our youth program.
We have also seen
our new church building rise up. In anticipation, we were supposed to
be in it a couple of weeks ago, but as always, God has His timing. As
part of getting ready for our new church, we took a moment to go out and
write verses of scripture on the floor. This was done so that we could
stand on the promises God has given us.
We, over the past
few weeks have also been getting geared up for a care ministry. This
ministry will help us identify and make visitors welcome. It will help
them to get to know our church and the people in it.
Updated February 7, 2003: We have been in
our church for several months now and things are going great. Our
church is exploding by the blessings of God. He has seen us through
each stage of our growth and we continue to grow.
We had a wonderful
time through the holiday season. We had our second annual Christmas
dinner at the church with an awesome turn out. Brother Dan graciously
prepared the food for the dinner as he did last year. And of course Santa
Clause showed up.
Our children also
presented for a Sunday evening service a story about Christmas as described
by scripture. They sat by the campfire and learned the true meaning of
Christmas in that Christ was born into flesh and came to this world so that
we may have eternal life through Him.
We also had a New
Years celebration together. Many attended and we shared in playing
games, a time of worship, and a sermon by Assoc. Pastor Dennis Herron.
And as a church body, we brought in the new year.
Our youth recently
went to Firefall 2003. On their trip we had two surrender to full time
ministries. Austin Wright surrendered to preach and Carrie Gaddie
surrendered to missions. The Sunday after, Dennis had adults pick a
youth from our group to lift up in prayer and to be a source of
encouragement for that youth.
As we continue to
grow, our plans are to finish the entrance to the land of the church and do
much with the landscape. The inside is finished and this year we will
complete the outside.
It is evident
already that we will need more parking and hopefully soon, more chairs to
accommodate the growth that God is allowing us to experience. Our
prayer is that as we grow wide that we will also grow very deep in the
things of God.
Updated June 22, 2003: Much has happened.
We had an awesome Easter play this spring. It was performed over three
nights and many lives were affected because of it.
A couple of months
ago God blessed us with the use of Power Point. It has enhanced our
worship a great deal.
Our youth went on
their annual mission trip this month. Many lives were changed both in our
group and the people in which we came in contact with. There were
three saved that we know of and hopefully many more will come to know Christ
because of our mission. The kids did their program on in two churches
and in the park. They also scraped paint off of an old house.
We are in the
process of getting our first church directory completed. Hopefully
that will be out real soon.
Updated December 21, 2003: What an
exciting year! We have seen much take place. Our fall revival
went very well. Many came and the speakers spoke directly to the
church. We were challenged to reach out and make a difference in the
name of Jesus
The kids had their
3rd annual K.E.G. Party. This year they included different activities
such as; Fear Factor, Sumo Wrestling, and Rock Paper Scissors. They
had a decent turn out and many kids made decisions that night.
We had our first
ever "Trunk or Treat" for Halloween. Many people pulled up their cars
and filled their trunks with goodies. There were some awesome costumes
and everyone had a great time.
The we had a grand
finally to end the year and bring in Christmas right... We had what was
called "Light up Harvestland". And just in time, our entrance was
finally completed. Many people jumped in and made different light
projects to light up the entrance drive. There were enough lights to
fill up one side of our road all the way up. To top that we had three
nights of a live Nativity.
All of these
activities allowed us to reach our community and touch lives. We had
many prospects attend each thing and throughout it all, Jesus was
proclaimed.
As we finish the
year, we are going to do it in prayer. We will pray in the New Year
and ask God to direct us and to bring all that need the fellowship we have
to offer.
Updated January 17, 2004: The church
prayed in the new year in hopes of becoming a stronger church for the Lord
in the coming year.
On January 11th,
2004, Dennis and Emily Herron surrendered into full time ministry (whether
it be preaching, teaching, or whatever).
Jean Anderson passed
away December 29, 2003. She was a true blessing and touched many
people in Harvestland. She is the first member we have had to pass
away in the time that we have been a church. May God give her peace!
Updated June 21, 2004: We have seen many
things take place since the last I updated this page.
Our Easter Musical,
"Bow The Knee" was a success again this year. Many people were touched
by the message of Christ and what He did for us on the cross.
Since the beginning
of the year, we have been incorporating the use of drums into our praise and
worship. As time goes by, we use them more and more adding yet another
dimension to our worship experience.
Recently we have
updated our software in our worship time too. We bought Media Shout
which goes so much further than Power Point. This is also a tool
adding a new dimension to our services.
On 5/23/04, both
Dennis Herron and Bobby Boster were ordained into the Gospel ministry
serving the call to Harvestland Community Church. Dennis' call is to
serve as Youth Pastor and assist in the pastoral position. Bobby's
call is to serve in means of the media through the newsletter, the ministry
through the internet, and to assist in the pastoral position. Both of
their objectives is to glorify God and support our senior pastor Dan King.
On 5/14/04, our
women had their annual SIS celebration. Lisa Wright brought both song
and message. As usual, the women had the opportunity to invite other
women from our community and share with them the love that Jesus has showed
them.
On 6/12-19/04, our
youth went on their summer mission trip. They were able to help a
widow women of 84-years-old spruce up her house. The kids tour down a
little deck and rebuilt it, took down four awnings and replaced them, and
painted her house. They also got to share the gospel message in three
churches and by the pool at the hotel we stayed at. Their trip this
year was in Panama City FL.
Our church just
finished up a study of "The 40 Days of Purpose". This journey took
several into a deeper walk with the Lord. It taught us our purpose in
this world and in eternity. Many had their eyes opened to the fact
that God has a plan in EVERYTHING that happens to us and that we are to use
these things as part of our ministry. The very things that shape us
and define us, God used for His glory.
11/13/05 - Many things have happened since last
I posted anything. Since the summer of last year, we have seen people
come and go. We started the year off with goal of seeing 20 saved and
have seen many come to know the Lord as Savior.
This spring, we had
our "Bow The Knee" Easter program and it went really well. The weather
help up some people from coming but our crowds were about usual. Many
people were touched by the sweet Spirit that flowed during this time.
Our Easter
Eggstravaganza was a hit again as many kids joined in the fun of searching
for eggs and had the opportunity to hear a message of Christ and what He did
on the cross for us.
Our kids had their
Annual VBS as well. Emily Herron coordinated this event and took the
kids through the marketplace of Jerusalem during the time of Jesus.
All of the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves.
This summer, Dennis
and Emily Herron stepped down as youth leader and Dennis resigned from his
position on the Ministry team. The youth summer mission trip was also
cancelled due to many reasons including conflicts in dates and money.
On November 6th,
2005, Brother Dan announced his retirement. He will serve until
December 31st of 05. On November 13th, 2005, the church nominated a
"Transition Team" to join with the remaining Ministry Team to set in place
what will take place during the transition without a pastor and youth
leader.
